The story covers the life and loves of a working-class teenager who was given the opportunity to drag himself out of London's East End and into a better world. A great deal of the book is set on board the passenger liners of the eighties and nineties, where the author worked as an engineer officer. It is honest, funny, sometimes unbelievable, but an ultimately true story that many people from all walks of life can relate to and who will hopefully look back at their own lives and make them realise what a wonderful time they had.
